In Memphis TN- Overton Park
I gently kissed winter on the lips, hoping she would say goodbye.
As a child growing up in Zimbabwe, I often heard my mother make reference to ‘spring cleaning’, I think that was her smart way of encouraging me to tidy the disaster that was my living space, and had nothing to do with actual spring. Having lived in the four seasons go Memphis TN, I now understand fully what it is like to anxiously await the arrival of spring after a relentless winter! We are mere days away from official spring according to the calendar, and today we have a snow/ice/sleet storm that has crippled the daily practices of this southern city.
Here in spring everything changes. The lively atmosphere of the city becomes tangible. Runners and cyclists frequent the sidewalks, parks flood with all forms of recreation, the sky shines brighter, yard sales appear on every corner and life becomes lovely again.
Today I woke up to a frosted ground, hopefully the last one until the next cycle of this loathed polar vortex. I thought to myself ‘this is probably the last snow i’ll see until next year. I must capture and remember it; remember how gently a snow flake falls, how this entity is so small as an individual and so totally encompassing as a collective.’
Thus, I put on every piece of clothing I own, grabbed my camera and commenced the adventure!
This photo series is somewhat of a premature reminiscence of winter, what I hope to be the final goodbye.
illu started in August 2013 and went from the classic silhouette papercut, to more complex stuff. The first papercuts were also featured on boredpanda a while ago.
The papercuts are still created as unique items but the shapes, the dimensions, the background and the combination of colours have changed. Of course you can still percieve the old illu style: simple and clean white frames and backgrounds.
The last updates on the project are the new frames that feature floating silhouettes or text and the layered color background. For this, the colored paper layers are carefully placed under the white papercut, filling the shapes.
Each piece is framed in a 13cm/13cm custom frame.
Recently, illu posted the also the gallery and shop on Etsy. Check it out!
No Love is a collaborative collection between Toronto-based brand Daily News Project and New York twin design-duo Dee and Ricky. No strangers to the fashion industry, Dee and Ricky have worked with brands from Marc Jacobs to Casio, Converse to Joyrich. And although best known for their colorful LEGO based designs, No Love is a monochromatic inspired collection featuring the twins’ signature LEGO heart brooch; alongside a t-shirt, crop-top, and snapback hat.
A personal project series of mine. When every little “living” things looks around, the world is so big and is an adventure to them. Its the same with us humans. We are little miniature porcelain cats in a great big world, ready to explore. But we must remember that the simple things can be worth exploring, as it is for Re and La of their adventure in the Bedroom.
All photos took hours of editing and filtering to get the black&white and color textures right. Enjoy!
Musician Bosley has just presented his new video clip for the single “Just Like You” from his debut album “Honey Pig”. The video itself is simply extraordinary as it took 9 long months to film, singing the same song day after day after day, later combining the shots together in this amazing lyric-lapse clip.
