Handmade Gourd Lamps by Gourdlight
21-year-old physiotherapy student Robert Dziura from Poland creates beautiful gourd lampshades that can give your room a completely new feel. Cracow-based Robert carefully drills various patterns into the dried shells of the gourd fruit, that originates from Africa. Every lamp has thousands of perforations in different diameters, which allow the light to shine through the lampshade and cast beautiful light effects on the walls. In the end, the lamp is also decorated with jewellery waxed strings.
It all started when Robert was dining with his girlfriend in a restaurant, where she saw a lamp she really loved. Since she had no idea what it was made of, Robert decided to surprise her and make one himself. After finishing the lamp, Robert made one for himself as well – eventually, more people found out about his work and liked it enough to want to buy it.
Every gourd lamp is handmade and completely unique. Robert says the work requires a lot of patience and it usually takes from 2 to 3 weeks to finish a lamp. Being a student, he works on weekends and mostly at nights.
