Honkey Kong: A Tribute to 2D Platform Games

I was in Hong Kong visiting my friend Oscar, where I spent a fair bit of time on his skyscraper rooftop just looking on the daily life below, when I got the idea of the project. A couple of months later I got an assignment to shoot an advertise campaign for the shoe brand Jim Rickey, so we went back to shoot the campaign from various skyscrapers. The mission of the project was to do a tribute to classic 2d platform games and integrate the person with the street scenes. Shot from above using a tele lens to make the images more flat, it was possible to create the feeling of  the model navigating in the streets.

I have my background in photojournalism and wanted to keep the retousch to a minimum. Instead of using composition in post production, we shot everything on location were we were communicating with Walkie-talkies and I had a clear view from above and could direct the models and warn them for incoming traffic. The most difficult part of the project was to get access to the different rooftops, but we managed by hiring two local film students as fixers.
