Amazing Shadow Art Created from Junk
The British artist duo of Tim Noble and Sue Webster presented a “Nihilistic Optimistic” installation of six large sculptures that at a first glance look like just a random pile of crap. The magic happens once you turn the light on: the six piles of stuff all of a sudden create perfect shadows of seated people.
A seemingly punk attitude of Tim and Sue towards their creation process actually entails a psychological evaluation method, called “perceptual psychology”. It has to do with how people perceive abstract objects, and the installation by Tim and Sue go to illustrate how something completely chaotic might form a perfectly shaped and recognizable image. Making order out of chaos, now that is art!
